So I released two native iPhone apps in the past 2 months. The first iPhone app is called salary calculator and it appeared on 06 October 2010. The app was submitted to iTunes connect to 28 September 2010.
The second app was called a niche app for real estate investors in Australia, cash flow calculator property. It was developed in a few hours on a weekend in iTunes connect on 24 October 2010 and was made available on APP store on 03 November 2010.
Many people have asked me if iPhone app development is difficult or if it is worth the effort. My answer is, while it's not super easy, it's not impossible if you are willing to learn a new language and syntax. It helps also, if you want a destination that you have (for example, an app in mind, you want to develop), rather than merly reading tutorials or books on iPhone app to achieve development. I created a few iPhone Web apps for my Web development company and therefore my main goal was, to some of you in native applications convert.
Here are five important steps I before becoming my first (and second) iPhone apps.
1. Buy a Mac. This is one of the most expensive investments, you have in iPhone app to make development step. I have a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air or a Mac mini would good work. You need a Mac because iPhone software development kit (SDK) only on the Apple platform works.
2. Buy an iPhone. Although it is not absolutely necessary, it is advisable to have before you develop an iPhone app an iPhone. Although the iPhone SDK with an iPhone Simulator with an app on a real iPhone a much better understanding comes you and experience as an app works. You can download existing apps that are available for an inspiration on app store. A second hand if you a second hand mind dont you can get iPhone handset from Amazon or eBay half price.
3. Download you forth and install iPhone SDK. iPhone SDK comes with XCode, iPhone Simulator and a suite of additional tools for developing applications for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. According to Apple XCode is the hub of your development experience and I tend to agree. XCode is just an IDE such as Eclipse and Dreamweaver but it is for app development on Mac. Need XCode to develop, compile, test, share and send your iPhone app touch SDK can be downloaded free of charge for free. You need only pay for the developer program (USD99/year), if you want to test the app that you on a real iPhone (instead of the iPhone Simulator) written have and send it to the APP store.
4. Read and learn. Now, you have everything set up and ready for your first iPhone app development, start read and learn all about how an iPhone app to develop. This is a very important step, because the learning curve can be pretty steep for those, the no C / C
